Decisions Driven by Self...and How God Gets Us Through Them (Jonah Bible Study)

[Started December 14th, 2025] Hey,
I hope you're having a great day today. In this blog post I wanted to talk about how we tend to run away from what God wants us to do and how He gets us back on track where we need to. My inspiration behind this blog post comes from the book of Jonah.

In Jonah I, God tells Jonah to go to Nineveh and tell the people on what is to take place if they do not repent. Instead of Jonah going to Nineveh, he decides he wants to go to Tarshish instead; he feared what would take place if he were to go to Nineveh. We all have been in this position before where we are moved by God to go in one direction, but instead (because of fear of the outcome) we choose to ignore Him and go in the next direction we feel fits best (and comfortable) for our lives.

In Jonah 2, it takes us on the voyage when Jonah was heading Tarshish and then the ship tips over, causing Jonah to get swallowed up by the whale and ended up in the whale's stomach for three days. During the three days, Jonah prayed and spoke to God about why he's there and for him to be released from the whale's stomach. When we make decisions on our own or choose a decision that was not made by God,  we have to face the consequences. I could tell you that based on experience, me making decisions on my own was not the best choice for me. I would rush and feel pressured to make a decision right away. Now before making a decision, I pray about it and have God lead me the way. Other times,  I stay within the decision I made and have to go through the consequences of not being obedient. While I go through this phase, I still pray to God and ask Him to lead me out of the situation I'm in. Never blame God for your decisions; He gave you the cues to move toward the right decision.

In Jonah 3, Jonah was released out of the whale's stomach and decided to become obedient and head over to Tarshish. He went to complete the assignment that God gave him... to spread the gospel and try to have the citizens repent and turn their lives over to God. This is very heart-warming to me... to know that even when we make the wrong decision, God is there to get us out of the rut and lead us on the path that favors Him. Have this be a sign to you that no matter what happens in your life,  God forgives you and He will lead you in the right direction...as long as you lean on Him.

I strongly suggest you read the book of Jonah for yourself.  It's a short story that teaches us to listen to God when He gives us an assignment and not to make decisions on our own based on our comfort.

When Hearts Touch

Hey,  I'm here with my first movie recommendation. It's called When Hearts Touch. This animated movie is based on a book that was already published in Nigeria. This movie is about a 9-year-old boy in a village who did not have money, but he had his parents which kept him happy. Sadly, both parents passed on...leading to Preye's struggle. During the struggle, Preye was searching for food...sometimes he would look for a job and receive food as part of his payment. It wasn't until Preye met the farmer when his life began to change. Here's a movie trailer so you could get a sneak preview 😊.  If you would like to watch this movie, you can find it on Tubi.

Vanities

Hey, [ Started November 28th, 2025] I hope you all enjoyed your Thanksgiving with loved ones. I know I was happy to spend quality time with family away from social media (this is the first year where I did not post the antics, but instead used my digital camera to capture memories) . During this month, I decided to read the book of Ecclesiastes that was recommended by my sister. I can say that as of November 28th, I'm halfway through the book and there's a lot of takeaways that I've taken in during my Bible Study. In the first six chapters, Solomon tells readers about what is considered vanity. I noticed that there was a trend among these chapters... and that is going after money and other worldly possessions. When I read through the first six chapters, my eyes were opened with what was vain.  I talked about this previously in a podcast episode that I used to consume a lot of items that was not connected with my spiritual walk. Since then, I've gotten rid of those items...

Be Still by Cece Winans

Hey,  I hope you're having a great day today. In this blog post, I will sharing with you a song by none other than Cece Winans on being still and having God intervene in your life and move the pieces :). Below is the video, please enjoy.  In Psalm 46:10 from the Bible, it states "Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted into the earth." We, as God's children, need to be still for God is the true ruler of the Heavens and the earth and will have all things work out for our good. I will also share with you the lyric version below as well. Have a great day :).
